This Thanksgiving as you’re packing your grocery cart with candied yams, green beans and turkey.  Why not pick up an extra can of beans, a can of ravioli, and some coffee?   It doesn’t take much time, and it only costs a dollar or two more on your grocery store bill.  But helping Veterans is important.  Liberty House is more than just a transitional living facility.  Since opening their doors in 2004, Liberty House has worked to transition homeless veterans back into the community.

Spinal Health for Preschoolers

Dr. Johanna had a great time doing a presentation at a local pre school today.  Teaching 3 year old and 5 year old children how to do a simple routine of daily spinal exercises.  The basic presentation revealed to the kids, that their backbone was in fact 24 separate bones.  Quite a surprise for the kids, Dr Johanna let them examine her model of a spine and they got to see the 24 bones for themselves.

Opening the floor to questions, the kids got to discuss what they thought was the most important organ in their body.  The brain, and how the spine connects the brain to the rest of the body.  Learning how a healthy spine can help you grow, play and learn better got the kids fired up and excited to do their spinal hygiene exercises.

Do you know any schools that would like Dr Johanna to come in, to teach kids about their spine and how it helps them grow?  Contact Catalyst Chiropractic at 603 791 0222 or drjo@catalystchironh.com to schedule her 30 minute presentation.

Tuning up the snow blower

A friend of mine said to me the other day, that it was time for him to tune up the snow blower for the season.  After all, he doesn’t want to start it up during the first storm and have the engine burn out on him.  Or worse, have the transmission drop with ten inches of heavy wet snow built up on the driveway.  Winter in New England can be rough on equipment, and no one likes to be caught unprepared for snow.Snow blower

Which set me to thinking, what about the main piece of equipment for snow removal?  You.  Your spine, your muscles, and your back.  Sure the snow blower does the bulk of the work, and the shovel does a lot of it too.  But it’s your muscles, and your spine that directs the blower, that shovels the snow.  When do you get your winter tune up?

Catalyst Chiropractic can tune up your Neurostructural system for winter.  Get that ice scraper out of the trunk, get the snow blower tuned up, and get your spine checked.  Why risk straining a muscle shoveling, when you can get your YOU tuned up.

Text Neck

This article in the Washington Post about Text Neck explains one cause of Anterior Head Syndrome. If you have a Neurostructural shift sitting up straight and exercises alone will not be enough to correct the condition.

We are seeing Anterior Head Syndrome more often in teenagers which could be setting them up for a lifetime of problems.

Keep Calm and Get Checked

Keep Calm and Get Checked

When I wear this shirt, people ask me what it means to “get checked.”

Although you may brush and floss your teeth, it is still beneficial to get your teeth “checked” by a dentist for any underlying issues. Getting checked in this context is an important practice for maintaining and preserving your oral hygiene.

Even though you may be in good shape and exercise, it may be just as important to get your spine “checked” by a chiropractor.

Small deviations or shifts in your spine, or motion imbalances or restrictions, can not only affect your physical appearance, but can also obstruct the vital nerves that exit your spine en route to your organs.

This can lead to pain, numbness, headaches, weakness, or abnormal body function, to name a few. The structural issue in the spine causing these secondary symptoms can’t be fixed with drugs, needles, or exercise. A structural issue requires a structural solution, and fixing a spinal structural shift with corrective chiropractic care can help you to prevent disease as well as help your body to be stronger and keep you on top of your game.
